How many times do you wonder about customers missing things, not reading signs or not seeing products that are right under their nose?
Each time you wonder this, it could be because your shop is too visually noisy.
Less is more.
Stand still at the door of your business and scan around counting the signs you can read and displays you can see. Every sign is a distraction from other signs, and from products.
In a retail business, products need to be the heroes.
Edit.
Take some signs away. reduce your messages. Make a shop that allows more product to be seen.
Here is advice for less visual noise in your business:
- Posters. Do not put up magazine or newspaper posters. There is no evidence doing so increases sales.
- Housekeeping notices. Have all customer notices, such as your exchange policy, discount voucher policy, minimum eftpos charge etc, all in the one unobtrusive place.
- Call to action signs. If you have items on sale or discounted, place them all in the one location.
- Product signs. For product signage, be consistent in style and look. Smaller signs work better.
- Colour block. Colour blocked product is more appealing to the eye.
- The counter. Edit to guide purchase.
Less is more.
