While Easter is seen as a religious season, the reality is Easter is a season for all. We suggest you focus on family and reconnecting.
Here are some left-field marketing ideas for Easter.
- Go out early. People who buy for Easter in a traditional sense will buy early. The early products we suggest are cards, bunnies, other soft plush, any religious iconography.
-
Be different.
- Talk about the opportunity to reconnect. Challenge customers to reconnect with old friends.
- remembrance. It could be an opportunity to remember those no longer with us. Invite customers to do this on a remembrance wall in-store.
- Host an event. Depending on your product mix, ideas could include: egg hunt, Easter Bonnet making, a games night playing games you sell, a jigsaw completion event where you together complete a jigsaw.
-
Talk about Easter on social media. Use your business page as a place where people can share Easter family stories. Set the tone by starting with a family story of your own.
- Share Easter cards with ideas of people to given them too. For example, Easter is a perfect time to reconnect with friends.
- Host a digital egg hunt.
- Ask for people to post photos of their Easter bonnets.
- Run an online Easter art competition.
- Do good. Collect for something during the season. Given the animal themes, maybe a local animal shelter.
- Invite a wall of stories. If you have a wall available, cover it with paper and invite your customers to write or draw what Easter means to them. This makes the season more interactive.
- Have a big Easter themed display at the front of the business. Place your Easter cards with and next to the display.
- Place Easter cards in a secondary location – at the counter for impulse purchase.
- Place small Easter gift lines at the counter – for impulse purchase.
- Easter is a perfect time to promote your whole range of plush.
- Make a giant papier-mâché egg with things you sell (old newspapers, coloured paper, paint). Go big, I mean really big. Taller than a person. Let the kids paint it. Make it a local thing for people to come see.
- Give people who dress as a rabbit a discount on a set day or days. Promote it widely – get the local paper in for a photo. Make the discount worth it for them dressing up.
- Have an egg eating competition – who can eat the most in 30 seconds.
- Offer free fried eggs one or two mornings for a gold coin donation to a local charity.
- Have an Easter Egg hunt for over 70s. Egg hunts are usually for kids but those over 70 will have a different recollection of the season from when they were kids. Cater to them with a hunt in your shop for tasty eggs.
- Respect the season. Easter means different things to different people. Respect this outside of the fun you may have. Be sure about your greeting and that it is appropriate. Maybe include a nice message on your receipts.
- Give away eggs. Freely and with a smile! Contact Chocolate Gems, they have excellent counter packs of eggs you can buy in bulk. They taste delicious and make for ideal counter giveaways.
We see Easter as an important season through which you can attract new shoppers.
