It is important that your employees know what is expected on them, the actions they are allowed and not allowed to take and the decisions they are allowed and not allowed to make.
In addition to the the position description advice from us, consider establishing a documented list of what those in various positions are permitted by you to do without having to reference you.
If you do not document the rules then it may be unclear what employees can and cannot do without reference to you. Tis could make it difficult for you to admonish an employee for their behaviour. It is vital that you document what is acceptable and what is not in areas outside what is obvious commonsense.
Here are rules you could consider.
RULES FOR EMPLOYEES OF THIS BUSINESS.
- Employees are not permitted to serve themselves. If you are purchasing something from the business, go to the customer side of the counter and make the purchase.
- You are permitted to determine pricing based on the standard mark-up established in the software. If you are not sure, pleas ask a manager.
- You are not permitted to agree to any discount outside what is advertised and outside what a manager approves.
- You are permitted to change displays that may have been up too long or are not working commercially for the business.
- You are permitted to process a refund request.
- You are not permitted to handle a product exchange request.
- You are not permitted to discuss the business whatsoever with the landlord.
- You are not permitted to sign an document on behalf of the business.
- You are not allowed to discuss the business with any supplier representative.
Note, this list is suggestions only. The goal is to offer ideas for your own consideration.
