Feature a stationery item weekly on your business Facebook page. The item should be something you write about in an educational way – to add value to the relationship. Here are some ideas for posts with which you can have fun:
Pens for use in the garden.
Glitter opens for writing on cards.
Double sided tape for many uses.
Command hooks for safe hanging in the home.
Invisible table for wrapping gifts.
Post it notes for getting the kids to clean their rooms.
Pencils for colouring.
Have fun with your social media posts.
Run a stationery sale two or three times a year – when others are not running their stationery sale.
RUN A STATIONERY PARTY. YES, A PARTY!
Slip a flyer into newspapers once a month.
Promote the businesses that support you. Setup a local business promotions board and pitch on their businesses supporting you by placing an A4 flyer or ad they create. Headline it: Local businesses we recommend.
Be consistent in replenishment. A full stationery department drives sales whereas a half empty stationery department denies you sales.
Promote stationery by interest at the front of the shop. For example:
Get together all products relating to security and promote them. This is an excellent time to promote shredders.
Bring in filing cabinets and all things filing and organisation for a front of store promotion.
Pitch a display of stationery using Spring colours.
Move your amazing coloured paper and card stand to the front of the shop.
Relay your stationery to keep your message strong and focused.
Offer free delivery with purchases over, say, $50.00.
Every couple of weeks feature an item at the counter to drive impulse purchases.
Offer an in-store price comparison with other major retailers such as Officeworks.
Engage on the shop floor with customers as you would with someone browsing gifts.
Ensure all employees are able to offer professional and knowledgeable service to shoppers considering pens. Test their knowledge.
Run a one-day bag sale offering a flat price for everything someone can fit in a bag.
